One city, many addresses

A County That Grew Up Fast

Forsyth County was created in 1831 and named for John Forsyth, who served as Governor of Georgia and later as U.S. Secretary of State. Cumming is the county seat and its only incorporated city, so much of the county carries a mailing address borrowed from a neighboring city such as Alpharetta or Suwanee.

Once Georgia 400 opened and pushed north through the county, homes followed. Between 2010 and 2019 Forsyth was the fastest-growing county in Georgia, so plenty of houses here are recent builds with crisp trim lines and long rooflines to work with.

New or not, the install works the same way. The Residential Track Lights page explains how the track fits under your fascia, and Permanent Christmas Lights shows the looks people choose most for the holidays.

Lake, mountain and greenway

Between Lake Lanier and Sawnee Mountain

Lake Lanier forms the county’s eastern border, and Sawnee Mountain Preserve gives the county its best-known high point and views. The Big Creek Greenway reaches up into the county from Alpharetta, and Fowler Park and the old Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge are both worth an afternoon.

Halcyon, a mixed-use development of shops, restaurants and homes near Alpharetta, opened in 2019, one more sign of how quickly the area has filled in. A long, uninterrupted roofline is exactly where a permanent outline looks best after dark.

Planning ahead

Lighting a Newer Forsyth Home

If your house is recent, a little planning gets the cleanest result from day one.

  1. Step 1: Wait for the trim

The track fastens to finished soffit and fascia, so schedule the install once the gutters and trim are complete and painted.

  2. Step 2: Choose the runs that matter

Front gables and the garage roof are the natural place to start, because that is what the street sees. Back rooflines facing a yard, a pool or the lake can be added in the same visit or later.

  3. Step 3: Think beyond the roof

A new deck or patio is the easiest time to add deck lights or patio lights, which run from the same app as the roofline.
