Cost and Value
It depends on your home. The main factors are the length of roofline you want lit, the number of lights, how many peaks, corners and stories the layout has, the track profile your trim needs, and any extras like patio or deck lights. We measure first and then give you a free quote for your actual house rather than a ballpark.
Very little. Gemstone’s own example: an average home with about 117 feet of roofline uses 150 lights, and at the maximum draw of 1 watt per light on bright white, 6 hours a day at $0.16 per kWh, that comes to about $4.34 a month or $52.80 a year. Colors other than bright white draw less, and your own electric rate will differ.
For most people the case is about more than one season. A hired crew puts lights up and takes them down every year, and you only get Christmas out of it. A permanent system is installed once, stays on the house, and gives you warm white every evening plus every holiday and game day you care about.
Yes, with no obligation. Send your address through the quote form and a specialist will be in touch.
Installation
Installation, Roofs and HOAs
The track mounts to the soffit and fascia under your roofline, not to the shingles, and it doesn’t hang from your gutters. In most cases one edge slides under the fascia’s L-trim and a color-matched screw holds the other side; where there is no L-trim it is screwed in on both sides.
Yes. Because the track sits on the trim at the roofline, a brick or stone house is handled the same way as a sided one: the brick itself usually isn’t involved. The track works on wood and aluminum soffit and fascia, and your installer picks the profile that suits your eaves.
We can’t speak for your HOA, since covenants differ from one neighborhood to the next. What helps is that the track is color-matched to your trim and hard to spot in daylight, and you decide exactly when the lights are on and what colors they show. Bring your covenants to the consultation and we will help you plan around them.
Most homes are finished in as little as one day. Larger houses, steep rooflines or add-ons like deck and patio lights can take longer, and we will tell you what to expect when we quote.
No. Gemstone Lights systems are installed by authorized dealers, who plan the layout and fit every light so the system stays weatherproof and safe.
Somewhere with an outlet nearby, close to where the first light starts and within good range of your WiFi. It plugs in and runs the lights as a certified Class 2 low-voltage system.
Weather & lifespan
Georgia Weather and Lifespan
Lifetime is defined by the manufacturer’s accelerated light testing: the lights are designed to last up to 50,000 hours, about 20 years at seven hours a day. How long the lights are actually used does not affect the warranty. On roofline track lights that means a lifetime light warranty, 10-year parts. The warranty page has the terms for every product.
The lights and connections are sealed and rated IP67 waterproof, and the cables and lights are UV rated so years of sun don’t wear them down. One caveat: damage from lightning, power surges and other severe weather is excluded from the warranty, so it is worth knowing before storm season.
Every connection is sealed, and an individual light can be unplugged and replaced without redoing the run. Send a service request with a photo and we will take care of it.
No. They are low-voltage LEDs that draw at most 1 watt each, so they run with very little heat.
App & everyday use
The App and Everyday Use
Yes. Calendar schedules and sunset-to-sunrise timers run the lights without you touching your phone, and Autopilot changes them to a fitting pattern for holidays, seasons and game days on its own.
Yes. The Gemstone Lights app works over WiFi or cellular data, so you can change the lights from across town or from the airport.
Yes. You can turn the lights on or off or start a favorite pattern by voice; see smart home integration for the details.

Comparisons
How Gemstone Lights Compares
We would rather tell you what to compare than knock anyone else. Ask every company for its warranty in writing, whether the track is color-matched to your trim, whether each light has a dedicated warm-white LED, and who services the system locally. For Gemstone Lights, the answers are on our warranty, warm white and RGBW and track lights pages.
String lights go up and come down every year and usually do one thing. Permanent lights stay on the house in a low-profile track, every light can be set on its own, and the app gives you warm white, color and animation whenever you want it.
Gemstone Lights started in 2016 and has grown to more than 120,000 users, 700+ authorized dealers and 200+ markets across North America. Gemstone Lights Atlanta installs and services its systems for homeowners across Gwinnett, Forsyth and North Fulton.
