Accent Lighting
Outdoor Accent Lighting
for Trees, Columns and Stone
Outdoor accent lighting picks up what the roofline misses: the big oak in the front yard, the porch columns, the stacked-stone entry. Gemstone Lights® Atlanta adds smart flood lights across North Atlanta, run from the same app as your roofline.
Beyond the roofline
Light What the Roofline Can't Reach
Accent lighting outdoors is about the things below the eaves. A roofline track draws the outline of the house, but it can't throw light up into a magnolia, wash a pair of brick columns or show off the texture of a granite retaining wall. Small, ground-mounted flood lights aimed at those features fill in the picture.
Around Atlanta that usually means trees. Mature oaks, tall pines, dogwoods and crepe myrtles are part of what makes North Atlanta neighborhoods feel settled, and at night they disappear into the dark. One or two well-placed floods bring them back, and give the house depth instead of a single bright line at the top.
If you are after the roofline itself, that is architectural lighting. This page covers what goes on the ground, using Gemstone Flood Lights.
- Trees, columns, stone and beds
- Up to 810 lumens per flood light
- Wiring buried out of sight
Two jobs
Accent Lighting vs Architectural Lighting
Both run from the Gemstone Lights app, and most homes look best with both. They just light different parts of the property.
| Architectural (roofline track) | Accent (flood lights) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it mounts | In a track under the soffit | On the ground, aimed at a feature |
| What it lights | Rooflines, peaks and eaves | Trees, columns, stone and planting |
| Wiring | Hidden inside the track | Buried during installation |
| Light per fixture | Points of light along the edge | Up to 810 lumens per flood |
| Colors and warm white | Yes | Yes |
| Schedules, Autopilot, zones | Yes | Yes |
Where floods go
Four Places Accent Lights Earn Their Keep
Specimen trees
Uplight an oak or magnolia so the canopy glows above the house.
Columns and porches
Wash pillars and porch posts to frame the front door.
Stone and brick walls
Graze textured walls so the stone shows its depth at night.
Gardens and beds
Pick out shrubs, ornamental grasses and the edge of the lawn.
The fixture
A Small Flood Light With a Lot of Range
Each Gemstone flood light puts out up to 810 lumens, which is plenty to accent the outside of a home without turning the yard into a ballfield. It produces more than 16 million colors plus a dedicated warm white, and each fixture can be set individually, so the tree by the drive can be warm white while the columns glow a soft amber.
During installation the connecting wires are buried, so they stay out of sight and out of the way of the mower and the string trimmer. The LEDs are rated for 50,000 hours, about 20 years at seven hours a night, and the floods are made for heavy rain, summer heat and strong wind. Coverage: 5-year light warranty, 10-year parts.
Full specs and warranty details are on the Flood Lights page.
One system
Matched to Your Roofline, Night After Night
Because the floods join the same system as your roofline lights, they share one schedule and one app. Group them into a zone and they switch on at sunset with everything else, dim with everything else and follow the same Autopilot calendar on holidays.
That is where accent lights get fun. Warm white on the trees most evenings looks calm and expensive. At Christmas the same trees can glow red and green under a multicolor roofline, and on game day the columns can carry your team colors while the eaves stay white.

Accent Lighting FAQs
No. Architectural lighting runs in a track along your roofline. Accent lighting uses flood lights on the ground, aimed at trees, columns, stonework and planting. They are controlled together, but they light different parts of the property.
Each flood light produces up to 810 lumens, which is enough to accent trees and the outside of the house. Brightness is adjustable in the app, so you can soften it for a subtle glow.
No. The wires connecting the flood lights are buried during installation, so they are hidden and can't be caught by lawn equipment.
Yes. They produce more than 16 million colors and a warm white, and each one can be set separately. Most homeowners use warm white day to day and color for holidays and game days.
Flood lights are built for the Gemstone Lights system and run in the same app as track lights. Ask us during your quote and we will check how they connect to your existing controller.
It depends on how many features you want to light, how far they are from the controller and how much wire has to be buried. We walk the property and give you a free quote, so book a quote.
